Performance Teams FAQ

When are auditions, and how do I sign up?

Auditions for performance teams will take place on:

  • Sunday, January 5th at 2237 Dundas St. West (Sessions: 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM)

  • Tuesday, January 7th at 6:20 PM at SoCap (The Social Capital Theatre)

Accessibility Information

Not all venues are fully accessible, but many of our rehearsal and performance spaces are. We’re committed to inclusivity—please reach out with any specific accessibility needs, and we’ll make sure to accommodate you.

Who can join a performance team?

We welcome improvisers with a strong background in improv to audition! These teams focus on longform improv, so if you’ve completed a core longform program or equivalent training, we’d love to hear about your experience. Not sure if you’re ready? Reach out, and we can help you decide!

How are performance teams structured?

Performance teams at Assembly Improv are carefully curated to foster creativity, collaboration, and long-term growth. Teams consist of consistent members, allowing performers to build trust and chemistry over time. Members work closely with experienced coaches to refine their craft and develop a unique voice while performing in front of live audiences.

What is the time and financial commitment for performance teams?

Performance teams rehearse 2–3 times a month (totalling 6 hours).

  • Monthly Fee: $90 + tax
    This covers rehearsal space, coaching, production and exclusive perks like discounts on workshops and shows. Payments are handled automatically via Squarespace.

Who coaches the performance teams?

Assembly Improv provides professional coaches with extensive experience in longform improv and ensemble development. Our coaches are passionate about helping teams refine their craft, build confidence, and deliver fun performances.

How often do teams perform, and where?

Teams perform at least once a month at venues across Toronto. Plus, you’ll have opportunities to participate in signature events like Crate Diggers, The Remedy, and community jams—perfect for connecting with other improvisers!

Where do rehearsals and performances take place?

Rehearsals and performances are held at various venues (both east and west) in Toronto, and include accessible spaces.

What should I prepare for the audition?

No formal preparation is required beyond filling out the audition sign-up form. Please bring water, and if you require any accommodations, let us know in advance so we can support you in performing your best!

What is the commitment for performance teams?

The commitment runs from January to June, with a summer break before reconvening in September. We have summer teams for those who want to keep practicing through the season, as well as shows! We ask members to provide ample notice if they can’t continue, as consistency is crucial to team success.

Can I be on more than one team?

While it's uncommon to be on more than one team, it is possible. However, we encourage commitment to your primary team before auditioning for additional teams.

What if I can't make a scheduled show?

We get it—life happens! If you can’t make a scheduled show, please let us know as early as possible so we can adjust. Repeated absences may affect your team’s dynamics, so we encourage planning ahead to keep the show running smoothly.

Do you offer community events or social opportunities?

Yes! In 2025 we will host community events like crafting and boardgames nights—perfect for bonding outside rehearsals. Our performances also double as hangouts, so stick around to chat and celebrate your work!

Are there discounts or free tickets for friends and family?

Absolutely! Performers often get discounted tickets or even complimentary tickets for friends and family—just check your show’s details for special codes.

How do I pay for rehearsals?

Rehearsal fees are handled through a monthly subscription, which is automatically processed via Squarespace.
